DUBAI, 28th May, 2017 (WAM) – Under the UAE Government Leaders Programme, UAEGLP, "knowledge trips" were organised to the United States for graduates from the Diploma in Government Innovation Programme, along with the Chief Happiness and Positivity Officers.

The tour included a stop at General Electric, GE, an American multinational corporation. Here, the participants were introduced to the methods that the manufacturing giant uses to develop staff skills in drafting scenarios for the future, and their approach to establishing a happy and positive workplace.

The trip also included visits to a number of leading companies in San Francisco, including NASA's Ames Research Center, Google, and Twitter, in addition to the mayor's office. The itinerary serves the programme's objectives of familiarising participants with future forecasting tools, ways to optimise the use of technologies to develop services, and innovative leadership models.

Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Assistant Director-General for Government Services at the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, said, "The trip to the GE headquarters comes on the heels of last year's successful visit, which was the fruit of the strategic partnership between the company and the UAEGLP. It serves to hone government employees' skills and increase their familiarity with best international practices.

"The Programme is based on the firm belief in lifelong learning and continuous progress, which allows participants and graduates to use future trends to their benefit, and acquire the skills necessary for government officials in the 21st century," she added.

Dr. Dalya Al Muthanna, President and CEO of GE Gulf, added, "Training future leaders and equipping them with the necessary skills for success in the 21st century, most notably a future outlook, innovation, and initiative, is a cornerstone of the vision of the UAE's wise leadership. Our partnership with the UAEGLP allows us to support federal government departments to achieve their strategic objectives.

"The programme bolsters public-private partnerships as it encourages the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and success stories. As an industrial and digital company, we strive to provide high-quality training at our academy in Crotonville, where we aim to cultivate employees' knowledge and leadership skills, in line with the forward-thinking vision of the UAE's leadership," she added.

Launched in 2008, following directives from Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAEGLP includes four categories: Strategic Leaders, Executive Leaders, Innovative Leaders, and Future Leaders. Together, these programmes are designed to help the government achieve its strategic objectives and strengthen the national workforce, in collaboration with the best centres for scientific research and institutions of academic excellence, as well as prominent business leaders and major global companies.
