Lekhwiya youngster Asim Madibo believes that he can emulate the achievements of team-mate Almoez Ali next season, and push for a nomination for the best U-23 player at next season's QFA awards.
The 20-year-old midfielder gave his thoughts on his maiden Qatar Stars League (QSL) campaign in an interview at the recent season-ending QFA awards ceremony.
Opening up the conversation, Madibo reflected on his campaign with Lekhwiya.
'It's been a big season and I am very happy to be with this team, to win the sheikh Jassim Cup and the League in my first season was very special for me.
Whilst the Qatar Youth international also admitted that he didn't expect a call up to Lekhwiya at the start of last season.
'I was in Europe and I didn't expect that I would be with Lekhwiya this year. For me it has been a perfect season. I will be with Duhail next season. For me I want to be with Duhail and keep winning trophies and build on the first season I had in Lekhwiya added the former Aspire academy graduate.
It may be mentioned that QSL sides Lekhwiya and El Jaish have been merged under a new team - Duhail - which will make debut next season.
Madibo was restricted to 12 appearances in the league this season as Djamel Belmadi's side swept to their fifth ever QSL title, however the youngster was clear with his aims for the new campaign.
'I am aiming for more playing time next season. I know this season I did not have as much time on the pitch, but I believe next season I will have more opportunities and (God willing) I will make an impact with Duhail.
Whilst the no nonsense midfielder ended the interview praising fellow Lekhwiya youngster Almoez, stating that he was aiming to be nominated for the award during the 2017/2018 QSL campaign.
'It's difficult to say that I could be nominated for the best U23 player next season. I believe that Almoez is so good that he could easily win the award again, but god willing I will be up on the stage with him next year.
