Turkey, World's 10th Biggest Country in ISBN Rankings

With 2,312 literary works being sold in 66 countries and translated into 59 languages, Turkey's literary industry has become the world's 11th largest publishing market. Some of these literary works will be displayed at Abu Dhabi's upcoming International Book Fair, along with many other international counterparts.

'Turkey has always been a center for culture and the arts, said Mr. Hamdi Tursucu, Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and General Manager of Libraries and Publications. 'Bringing our most important works to Abu Dhabi shows the importance the UAE is gaining in the literary and publishing fields.

According to the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkey is the world's 11th largest publisher of books and other printed mediums. The country ranked as the world's 10th biggest country in ISBN rankings. ISBN (International Standard Book Number) are used to identify individual books.

'Turkey has always enjoyed strong historical, cultural and social ties with the Arab world. We therefore know that our literary works will appeal to the region as well, In fact, some of our top literary works have been translated to Arabic specifically for this region said Salih Ozer, Attach of Culture and Information, Turkey to the UAE. 'Throughout the past decade, continuous efforts have been made to promote the exchange of literary and artistic trade between Turkey and the UAE.
