ABU DHABI, 28th April, 2017 (WAM) -- Fourteen films out of 50 entries
from 15 countries are competing for six awards at the Zayed University
Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF), the Middle- East wide film
festival for students by students, which will get underway on Sunday,
30th April, under the patronage of Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al
Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance and President of Zayed
University, at the ZU Abu Dhabi campus.
Now in its eighth year, the two-day event showcases the best films
from universities across the region.
Six films from Jordan, Germany, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar and UAE are
vying for awards for the Best of Best Film, Best Narrative Film, Best
Animation Film, Best Documentary, Best Happiness, Tolerance and
Positivity Award, and the twofour54 Aspiring Filmmaker Award.
Sheikha Lubna will attend the awards ceremony on Monday in the
presence of VIP guests, renowned filmmakers, doyens of the movies
industry and celebrities.
This festival will host two workshops on software skills and
documentary filmmaking.
ZUMEFF was established in 2010 as a graduation project by two Zayed
University students Al Yazyah Al Falasi, Reema Majed and Faculty
Director Alia Yunis, to showcase cinematographic works of students and
encourage young filmmakers in the region.
The festival serves as an upper-level festival management class in the
University's College of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed
University.
Last year, the festival showed 160 films from more than 40
universities and 16 countries from the Middle East.
