Tillerson suggests new dates for NATO meeting

(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had suggested new dates for the NATO meeting, after decision he will not attend the talks and rebuffed the alliance's efforts to reschedule them.

After Tillerson decided to skip his first NATO meeting, European allies expressed worries that it reopened questions about US President Donald Trump's commitment to the alliance.

Reuters had also reported that Tillerson will stay in the US to attend Trump's expected talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Florida, and US officials said that Tillerson is planning to visit Russia later in April.

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said: "We are certainly appreciative of the effort to accommodate Secretary Tillerson."
