Belarus to open consulate in Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belaruson Mondayannounced visa-free travel for Omanis and the opening of consulate in Muscat as part of efforts to boost Oman-Belarus relations. Makei was speaking at an event held under the auspices of Said bin Saleh al Kiyumi, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in the presence of H E Dr Sergei Rachkov, Ambassador of Belarus to Oman.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Makei, said, 'Visa-free travel for Omanis to Belarus will be valid for five days and can be extended by registering with the authorities there. We are keen to strengthen cooperation with Omans. There are a lot of areas where we can cooperate like agriculture and IT. We can have joint ventures (JVs) to produce industrial products, equipment and machinery.'

He added that both countries are interested to boost trade. 'If economic ties develop further, we will increase diplomatic presence in Oman. We export agricultural machinery to Oman. We are here to have JVs and create jobs for the national workforce.'

Qais al Yousef was appointed as the honorary consul to carry out the activities of the consulate. He said, 'My role is to be an enabler in strengthening ties. I am happy that Omanis can now enter Belarus visa-free and stay there for five days. This will enhance trade relations between the two countries.'
