Turkish, German FMs to meet in Berlin after ministerial visit cancelled

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, March 3 (KUNA) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel have agreed to meet in Berlin on Wednesday, March 8, in Germany.

Gabriel phoned Cavusoglu Friday to discuss a decision by a German local authority to cancel permission for a meeting that was due on Thursday for Turkey's justice minister who was scheduled to address the Turkish community in Germany, the Anadolu news agency said, citing a diplomatic source.

During the phone conservation, Cavusoglu expressed Turkey's discomfort over the incident.

Earlier Friday, a spokesman from the German Foreign Ministry said that the cancellation of the meeting was "provincial" and the German government had nothing to do with it.

On Thursday, the municipality of Gaggenau in southwest Germany revoked its permission for Bozdag's meeting, citing concerns about overcrowding. This prompted the Turkish Justice Minister Bozdag to cancel his planned visit to Germany.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry yesterday summoned the German ambassador, Martin Erdmann, over the cancellation.

Meanwhile, Cavusoglu had phone talks with the British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, and the two discussed current political and international developments, and humanitarian aid to Syria, the same source added. (end) rs.msa
