Matar Al Habsi achieves perfect score of 50 in semifinals showing off his skill with two Yuollah weapons

DUBAI, 18th Febuary 2017: Hamdan Mohammed bin Musleh Al Ahbabi (number 3) became the first Yuweel artiste to book his place in the final of the 17th edition of the Fazza Championship for Youllah during the 10th episode of the event in Al Meydan quadrant at Global Village on Friday 17th February.
Organized and supervised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC) to revive heritage sports, 18 finalists are vying for the grand prize of AED 1 million and the Fazza Youllah Championship trophy over 13 rounds of the competition every Friday at 9 pm.

The announcement that Al Ahbabi had qualified to the Final came during the live broadcast of the reality show on ‘Sama Dubai' TV channel, based on the interactive voting he received during the past few days following his perfect score of 50 in the last episode of the Fazza Championship for Youllah.
Ahmed Abdullah Aharsusi (number 13) will remain in the competition as he will get a chance to vie for the third and fourth place in the next episode.

Semifinal
Ahmed Mohammed Saeed Al Habsi (number 16) and Matar Ali Ahmad Rashed Al Habsi (number 1) displayed a high degree of skill in the second semifinal of the Fazza Championship for Youllah during the 10th episode.

First on the stage was Ahmed Al Habsi, who pranced around with good foot movements, and twirling and spinning the Youllah weapon with ease and also managed to ring the bell twice. However, with rain drops falling, he lost his weapon which fell outside the stage during his third attempt to strike the bell. He quickly regained his composure to ring the bell again but committed the same mistakes during his next two attempts with wayward throws resulting in the gun falling outside the stage. Taking into the account the rain and windy conditions, the Jury awarded him 48 points for his creditable performance.

Mattar Al Habsi showed that he is literally number one by far drawing on his years of experience as a Yuweel artiste to give a brilliant performance with two Youllah weapons to the delight of the large and appreciative audience. He failed to hit the bell in his first attempt but caught the weapon with one hand smartly while resting the other weapon on his shoulder.

Thereafter having disposed of the extra weapon, he focused on ringing the bell on three successive occasions at the 17-meter mark to be awarded a perfect score of 50 by the Jury for his flawless performance.

Audience
Ms. Suad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, said the success of the event depended on the audiences that throng to witness the competition at Global Village and their interaction by voting to select the winners.

'We have provided the best facilities for the audience to enjoy this program by allocating a special area for families. They not only get to see the best professionals in the folk art of Youllah but are also entertained by Emirati singers and Nabati poets. We are committed to providing an unforgettable experience to the audience who also participate in voting for the winners, she said.

'The promotion of the championship through the social networking platforms of HHC, Sama Dubai's and Al Oula radio station, has also raised the level of awareness of this traditional folk art among the younger generation, she added.

Format
The Championship organizers HHC have amended the format of competition this year adding a hint of international television programmes. The 18 finalists were divided into three groups of six each. Each group came under the eyes of an expert member of the jury as his mentor. The merits of each Yuweel (Youllah performer) will be assessed and his performances fine-tuned to unearth his talents and if he gains the votes from the two juries (excluding his mentor). As the Yuweel qualifies at the various stages of the competition, the final rounds will involve the public as they get to choose through voting. Upon the number of votes the four winners will be announced accordingly in the grand finale.

Folk art
‘Youllah' is a well-established folk art over the years where an iconic rifle is spun around to the rhythmic beat of Arabic music. One of the heritage traditions performed by the young and the not so elderly during ceremonies, Youllah as a sport began with real weapons in the past and then evolved into a weapon used with a hollow inside and free of ammunition. Now it has become even more lighter enabling participants to display greater agility and more skills in a dance form.
