Deutsche Bank pays USD7.2b settlement with US over mortgages

(MENAFN) The Government agency had said that Deutsche Bank had finished a USD7.2b deal with the US Department of Justice over its sale of toxic mortgage securities in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis.

Accordingly, the agreement represents the largest resolution for the conduct of a single entity in misleading investors in residential mortgage-backed securities, and the deal was higher than the USD7b paid by Citigroup to federal and state authorities in 2014.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch said: "Deutsche Bank did not merely mislead investors: it contributed directly to an international financial crisis."

On the other hand, Deutsche Bank had announced it reached the agreement in principle with US authorities in December.
