Abu Dhabi Customs celebrates 11th Basic Course graduates

ABU DHABI, 25th October, 2016 (WAM) -- The General Administration of Customs, Abu Dhabi, recently held a graduation ceremony for participants of the 11th Basic Customs Officers Course, under the patronage of Mohammed Khadem Al-Hameli, Acting Director-General.

Organised by the Training and Career Development Section, Department of Support Services, the ceremony took place at Al-Saadiyat conference room on the training premises. The event is in line with the administration's endeavour to provide junior officers with an overview of international best practices and a foundation of practical training that will help them perform their duties in the field.

In his opening speech at the ceremony, Al Hameli expressed his delight about the graduation of the 58 new customs officers who have successfully completed the professionally-tailored training programme in customs science to prepare them to work at the ports of entry in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The training course was designed and conducted by Abu Dhabi Customs Institute instructors who have international experience in customs.

The officers will eventually join their colleagues to play a key role in homeland security and the protection of the community from illegal trade risks, fight against smuggling and commercial fraud activities.

Al Hameli explained that the Abu Dhabi Customs Institute was established in order to implement the wise vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, with the goal of developing customs officials' knowledge, providing them with up to date information and equipping them with the latest technology to support their performance. The institute also seeks to enhance the role of customs in foreign trade activities, while supporting the economic growth of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
