Kuwait- Health Min. opens breast cancer conference

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Thursday renewed its commitment to global health efforts to boost immunity against cancer and other chronic diseases, one of the health care sector's most perennial challenges. Those comments were made by the MoH's Assistant Undersecretary of Legal Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Abdulhadi, who spoke on behalf of Health Minister Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi in a speech to kick off a conference on breast cancer.

Moreover, Abdulhadi noted the pervasiveness of breast cancer in Kuwait, adding that some 420 women suffer from this disease in the country, where the patients are typically 10 years younger than those in Europe and the United States.

The MoH official also spoke of the ministry's efforts to combat breast cancer, saying that it keeps abreast of the latest methods to ratchet up immunity against this disease and detect early symptoms.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hana Al-Khawari, the head of the conference's organizing committee, said that a total 517 cases of breast cancer have been administered since 2012, as she underscored the importance of detecting early symptoms of the disease to maximize chances of curing it.

The three-day conference consists of 24 lectures given by healthcare specialists, in addition to three workshops and a health exhibition. (end) ntk.nam
