The Ministry of Manpower (MoM) has allowed Omani teenagers aged 15-18 years to work in about 73 professions, mostly in sales. In a ministerial decision (No 218/2016), MoM issued a set of guidelines and listed 73 occupations where people between the age of 15-18 years can look for jobs.

In Article 1 of the decision, the ministry states that it will be mandatory for the job seeker to get a formal letter from his/her guardian, while Article 2 mentions a few measures that need to be taken at the time of seeking a job. These measures include informing the Ministry of Social Development, registering with the Public Authority for Social Insurance, undergoing training in using safety tools, as well as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) training.

Article 3 of the decision stipulates the need for a medical examination before appointment and then every six months thereafter.

The decision was issued on July 4, and it came into effect from the next day.
