Nabhani siblings to spearhead Oman's Davis Cup challenge

After a gap of two years, the Nabhani siblings - Khalid and Mohammed will make a return to the national team and will lead Oman''s challenge at the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV tournament that will be held in Amman, Jordan from July 13-16.

Besides the Nabhani duo, two other players will be selected from a pool of seven, who will undergo an overseas camp in France.

The camp will be held from June 25-July 9. Mohammed is currently based in Paris, France while Khalid is based in Glasgow, Scotland.

The seven players selected for the camp are Abdullah al Barwani, Younis al Rawahi, Abdulrahman al Hajri, Zakariya al Suleimani, Fawaz al Mandhry, Abdulmalik al Aufi and Omran al Balushi.

According to Siddiq al Hashmi, the Oman Tennis Association (OTA) teams'' committee chairman, ''the best two players will join the Nabhani brothers for the Amman tournament''.

Besides Oman, the Group IV will see the participation of teams from Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Iraq, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen and Tajikistan.

According to the Davis Cup rules, three pools of three teams (Pools A, B and C) and one pool of four teams (Pool D) will play on a round-robin format. The winners of Pools A and B will be drawn against the winners of Pools C and D to compete in a playoff to determine which two nations will be promoted to Asia/Oceania Zone Group III in 2017.

The nation finishing fourth in pool D will not compete in the positional playoffs. Oman was represented by Ahmed al Barwani, Omran al Balushi, Fawaz al Mandhry and Younis al Rawahi at last year''s event that was held in Bahrain from April 27-May 2.

It finished eighth among nine nations, after losing a playoff to Iran 1-2. Oman only won one tie in the round-robin stage against Kyrgyzstan, then lost 0-3 each to Singapore, UAE and Bangladesh.
