Oman seeks Iran expertise for hydel plants: Report


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Iran and Oman have expressed willingness to develop hydroelectric power plants on dams to be built on a joint-venture basis according to a report by Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

This was announced by Bahram Nezamolmaleki director general of the export Promotion and technical and engineering affairs department of Iran's Ministry of energy on Saturday after a meeting with Oman's Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources H E Ahmed al Shahi IRNA reported.

Nezamolmaleki said representatives from major water industry organisations were present at the meeting and they briefed the Omani delegation on the capability of Iranian companies to build plants for hydroelectric power generation and modern sewage treatment.

According to the report Omani officials asked Iranian companies with expertise in dam building and hydroelectric power plants to cooperate with Oman. Oman and Iran plan to establish a joint committee to explore the potential for joint ventures for the construction of dams in the sultanate.

H E Shahi also met Iran's Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian. Discussions were held and the two sides agreed to share their expertise and experience in the field of water-resource management the Iranian minister told reporters after the meeting.

Chitchian added that Oman like other Gulf countries has good experience in water desalination and Iran is keen to use the knowledge in this field.
