CAIRO: The Arab League hailed the success of the Palestinian and Arab diplomacy in issuing a decision from the U.N. General Assembly to raise the Palestinian flag on U.N. premises in New York Geneva and Vienna.

In a statement issued Friday Secretary General Nabil el-Araby said the decision is a significant diplomatic achievement that bears big symbolic importance and is also yet another recognition of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

El-Araby thanked European African Asian and Latin American countries that backed the Arab proposal in this regard.

He is set to participate in a ceremony to hoist the Palestinian flag in New York that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend in the end of September on the sidelines of opening the new session of the U.N. General Assembly.
