Tributes pour in for comedian


(MENAFN- Arab News) MUMBAI: Bollywood celebrities Karan Johar Anushka Sharma Riteish Deshmukh and Manoj Bajpayee paid tributes to comedian Deven Verma best known for his role in 'Angoor

Verma 78 died in Pune on Tuesday following a heart attack. He had been suffering from various ailments including diabetes and cardiovascular problems.

The actor is known for his memorable roles in films like 'Chor Ke Ghar Chor' Sanjeev Kapoor-starrer 'Angoor' 'Gol Maal' 'Khatta Meetha' 'Naastik' 'Rang Birangi' 'Dil' 'Judaai' 'Andaz Apna Apna' and 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai'.

Bollywood stars took to Twitter to express their grief. 'RIP Deven Verma your straight-faced impeccable comic timing still doesn't have a successor' Johar tweeted.

'Deven Verma incredible actor comic excellence second to none. Thank you for making my childhood so memorable. Will miss you sir RIP' Deshmukh wrote on his Twitter page.

Anushka while recalling her favorite moment from Verma's 'Andaz Apna Apna' wrote 'RIP Deven Verma.'

'Sad to hear that the great Deven Verma ji passed away. my heartfelt condolences to his familyRIP' tweeted Bajpayee.

'Fashion' director Madhur Bhandarkar said 'Sad to hear Deven Verma-ji has passed away. A breakthrough humorist & baadshah of subtle comic timing he made comedy look classy. RIP Sir.'

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar daughter of noted poet-filmmaker Gulzar who directed Deven in 'Angoor' tweeted 'Alvida Bahadur. Watching you eat the bhaang pakodas was delectable. RIP Deven Verma Sir.'

'RIP Deven Verma Ji I grew up on your performances!' said actor Tusshar Kapoor.

Screenwriter and director Milap Zaveri referred to Verma as a fine actor with the 'most understated comic timing ever.'
