Exhibit studies impact of light on landscapes

(MENAFN-Arab News) Magic of Light, a series of landscape photographs by artist Waleed Al-Marhoum capturing the elements of nature both in the Kingdom and abroad, is on display for public viewing at the L? Art Pur gallery in Riyadh

The solo exhibition by the Saudi photographer is open till March 16 for landscape photography lovers and general public

The photographs highlighted the impact of light on a tree, a stone or a rock, literally transforming it into a piece of art

?I get inspired by the lines and shapes drawn and sculpted by light which magically transform them into portraits, silhouettes or abstract paintings,? said Al-Marhoum

Using different photographic techniques, Al-Marhoum excels at capturing the essence of craggy mountains, sandy shores or wide deserts plains with a still camera and video

?Light and illumination are the basics of photography. Without light, there is no illumination. You can?t see a thing. The direction and intensity of light affects shapes, colors and the way we perceive things,? Al-Marhoum said

Al-Marhoum focuses often on the rough beauty and simplicity of the Saudi environment. He also participated in several collective exhibitions both in the Kingdom and overseas

The artist took to photography in 2004 using a traditional camera. Today, he captures his images in digital format creating unique landscapes from the Kingdom.
