CENTCOM Chief Updates Lawmakers on US Military Objectives Across Mideast
(MENAFN) Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), met with members of the House Appropriations Committee’s Defense Subcommittee on Monday to discuss current US military priorities and operations throughout the Middle East.
According to reports, Cooper is scheduled to provide a similar briefing to senators on Tuesday as part of ongoing consultations with Congress regarding regional security developments.
"These sessions follow public briefings to the Armed Services Committees last month," it added.
According to reports, the latest meetings are part of a broader effort to keep lawmakers informed about military activities and strategic considerations in the region.
The Middle East has remained highly tense since US and Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran in late February. The operations were followed by retaliatory actions from Iran against Israel and several regional states hosting American military assets.
Although a temporary ceasefire was agreed on April 8, according to reports, progress toward a lasting truce later faltered due to disagreements over the implementation of the arrangement and subsequent developments across the region.
