Chief Minister Of India's Karnataka State Quits

HYDERABAD, May 28 (NNN) -- The chief minister of Karnataka resigned on Thursday, in a key leadership change in the southern Indian state.
Siddaramaiah's exit paves the way for this deputy, D.K. Shivakumar, 64, to take over the administration of the Congress-ruled state.
He submitted his resignation to Karnataka governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's office in the state capital, Bengaluru.
The change followed high-level meetings that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar recently held with top Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, in New Delhi.
It is seen as part of a power-sharing understanding Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar reportedly reached after the 2023 Karnataka assembly election victory.
