A Luxury Watch Tops The List Of Top Modern Status Symbols

(MENAFN- SWNS Digital) The modern status symbols of today include your own sauna, a luxury handbag, an outdoor kitchen and the latest iPhone, according to Brits. A study of 2,000 adults identified the items people see as signs of having 'made it' in life – including an LED facemask and a walk-in wardrobe. A luxury watch comes in as the biggest modern status symbol, according to 35 per cent. While an outdoor pizza oven and a robot vacuum cleaner also made the list as well as a Peloton bike and modern art. Many are being considered with their finances - with the study finding 25 per cent balance saving alongside spending on such items. But 46 per cent own at least one item they see as a marker of success. If they lost or damaged their items, 31 per cent would feel sad while 20 per cent be angry and 14 per cent went as far to say they'd feel a sense of grief. Despite this, only 12 per cent are certain that their items are insured. Gary Davess, director of insurance for John Lewis Money, which commissioned the study said:“The 1980s had giant mobile phones and 2000s had 'logomania' - now it's more about at-home saunas and outdoor kitchens. “These items can carry significant financial and personal value, so it's important people make sure they're properly protected and insured.” More than a quarter think it's important that they own modern status symbols, and people are an average age of 18 when wanting their first. But for 37 per cent, such items have become less important to them as they've grown older. While 71 per cent believe social media is making people more likely to want to buy items of value. One in five (18 per cent) say TV shows, films and content creators sway their decisions. While a similar number (19 per cent) have bought something to impress other people rather than just wanting it for themselves. Asked how owning a status symbol made them feel, 22 per cent of people said it left them feeling proud of themselves. And 21 per cent said it left them satisfied, while one in five said it made them feel happy and successful, according to the stats by OnePoll. Reflecting on what it means to have 'made it' in life, half of UK adults felt it comes down to having no money worries day to day and 42 per cent say it's feeling content with what they have in life. The study also found Brits are still coy when talking about finances, with only 18 per cent regularly talking about matters with their friends and family. Gary Davess added:“It's reassuring that people are making considered purchases, and striking a balance between saving and treating themselves. “Whether it's through knowing your spending sensibly, or that you've got protections in place, feeling secure in your finances can give you space to enjoy what's really important in life.” TOP 30 MODERN STATUS SYMBOLS: 1.
