Bizuneh Yimenu

Dr Bizuneh Yimenu is a lecturer in comparative politics at Queen's University Belfast. His research explores the political economy of decentralisation, federalism, devolution, and regional autonomy, with publications in journals such as Public Administration and Development, Publius: The Journal of Federalism, and Regional and Federal Studies. His current research focuses on the impact of decentralisation on subnational capacity, service delivery, and political stability, as well as the factors triggering decentralisation. Prior to joining Queen's, he was a teaching fellow at the University of Birmingham and an assistant lecturer at the University of Kent. He also lectured and conducted research on public policy and administration at various Ethiopian universities. In 2019, his project on regional autonomy received the Civil Society Scholars Award from the Open Society Foundations. Bizuneh is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, serves on the editorial boards of Regional and Federal Studies and Ethnopolitics, and is a member of the steering committee of the Regionalism and Federalism Standing Group of the European Consortium for Political Research. He frequently provides expert commentary to international media, including BBC and Al Jazeera, and writes pieces for The Conversation.
