French Politicians Condemn Israeli Seizure of Gaza Aid Flotilla
(MENAFN) French political figures strongly criticized Israel on Monday following the interception of the Gaza-bound Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla in international waters.
European Parliament Left Group co-chair Manon Aubry characterized the operation against the vessel as "a new act of piracy" and "a blatant disregard for international law." In a message published on X, she also expressed solidarity with activists supporting Palestinians, stating: "Full support for those who refuse to look the other way in the face of the genocide in Palestine and war crimes."
Meanwhile, Jean-Luc Melenchon, founder of the left-wing party La France Insoumise, praised the individuals participating in the flotilla mission. He said they "defy the world's most immoral army to oppose a sadistic genocide."
Another member of the same party, Emma Fourreau, condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring: "Once again with complete impunity, war criminal Netanyahu tramples international law. Support for the comrades standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people," she wrote on X.
In addition, Mathilde Panot, parliamentary leader of La France Insoumise, labeled the operation a "new intolerable act of piracy by Netanyahu's army."
She further emphasized continued support for Gaza, writing on X: "We will never avert our gaze from the genocide still underway in Gaza. Affection to all those who resist and are the honor of our shared humanity!"
According to reports, Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud aid flotilla while it was navigating international waters en route to Gaza. Around 100 activists aboard the humanitarian mission were reportedly detained as the vessel attempted to challenge the ongoing blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory.
