Drone Strike Sparks Fire Near Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi
(MENAFN) A fire erupted near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi following a drone strike, Emirati authorities announced on Sunday, according to reports.
"Authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire incident that broke out in an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region, caused by a drone strike,” the Abu Dhabi Media Office said on the US social media company X.
Officials stated that no casualties were recorded and emphasized that radiation safety levels remained unaffected.
"No injuries were reported, and there was no impact on radiological safety levels," it added.
According to the authorities, emergency and precautionary procedures were immediately activated following the incident.
“The fire did not affect the safety of the power plant or the readiness of its essential systems, and that all units are operating as normal," the office said, citing the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).
No details were released regarding who was responsible for the drone strike.
Regional tensions have remained elevated since US and Israeli strikes targeted Iran in February.
Tehran later responded with attacks directed at Israel and several US-aligned Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, while also moving to close the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation came into effect on April 8, although negotiations held afterward in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent settlement. US President Donald Trump later announced an indefinite extension of the truce.
