Drone Strike Causes Fire Outside Abu Dhabi Nuclear Power Plant, No Injuries Reported
Abu Dhabi: Authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire incident on Sunday, May 17, 2026, after an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region caught fire.
According to a statement released by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the incident was caused by a drone strike.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and that there was no impact on radiological safety levels following the incident.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) also stated that the fire did not compromise the safety of the power plant or the readiness of its essential systems, adding that all units continue to operate normally.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office urged citizens and residents to rely only on official sources for information and to avoid spreading rumours or unverified reports.
