Malaysia Criticizes Norway Over Cancelled Missile Export License

(MENAFN) According to reports, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has criticized Norway following Oslo’s decision to revoke an export license linked to the delivery of Naval Strike Missile systems intended for Malaysia’s naval modernization program.

Anwar said he expressed “vehement objection” during a telephone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, describing the decision as unilateral and unacceptable. He made the remarks on the US-based social media platform X.

Norwegian authorities reportedly justified the revocation on national security grounds, a rationale Malaysia has rejected.

“Malaysia has honored every obligation under this contract since 2018: scrupulously, faithfully and without equivocation,” Anwar said. “Norway, it appears, has not felt compelled to extend us the same courtesy and demonstration of good faith.”

The dispute involves Malaysia’s procurement of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) system, which forms part of its Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) modernization program, a key element of the country’s long-term naval defense planning.
