Israeli Shelling and Raids Reported in Syria’s Quneitra Amid Border Tensions
(MENAFN) Israeli forces shelled areas in the Quneitra countryside in southwestern Syria on Thursday morning and conducted a raid on a nearby village, detaining two young men, according to reports citing Syrian media.
The broadcaster Alikhbariah TV reported that three shells struck areas between the village of al-Hurriya and the town of Jabata al-Khashab in northern Quneitra.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces reportedly carried out search and raid operations in the village of Saida al-Golan in southern Quneitra, detaining one man during the incursion.
According to reports, another individual was detained north of Kodna village after a midnight raid on his home, as Israeli forces expanded operations in the area.
The developments come amid ongoing tensions along the Syrian border, particularly in the Quneitra region near the occupied Golan Heights.
Following the political changes in Syria after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government in December 2024, Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement no longer valid and expanded its presence in the buffer zone, according to reports.
Despite the absence of direct threats from the new Syrian administration, Israeli forces have continued conducting operations inside Syrian territory, including airstrikes and ground incursions targeting military-related sites and infrastructure, as stated by reports.
