Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound Incursions Reported

(MENAFN) Dozens of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday morning under police protection, according to reports citing Palestinian media sources.

The Wafa news agency said the group entered the compound and carried out religious rituals in its courtyards while being escorted by Israeli security forces.

Al-Aqsa Mosque, regarded as the third holiest site in Islam, is known to Jews as the Temple Mount, a location associated with ancient Jewish temples.

According to reports, Israeli police have permitted regular entry by non-Muslim visitors to the site since 2003, excluding Fridays and Saturdays, a policy that has remained a point of recurring dispute.

Palestinian officials reported that similar incursions have increased in frequency, citing dozens of such incidents in recent months.

As stated by reports, Palestinians view these actions as part of broader efforts to alter the character of East Jerusalem, which they consider the capital of a future independent state based on international resolutions that do not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the territory.

The situation continues to remain a sensitive flashpoint, with repeated access incidents at the compound frequently prompting regional political condemnation and heightened tensions.
