Israeli Army Conducts Shelling, Raids in Syria’s Quneitra Region
(MENAFN) Israeli forces shelled areas in the Quneitra countryside in southwestern Syria on Thursday morning and carried out a ground raid in a nearby village, during which two young men were detained, according to reports from TV channel.
The broadcaster stated that three artillery shells struck areas between the village of al-Hurriya and the town of Jabata al-Khashab in the northern part of Quneitra countryside.
In a separate development, Israeli troops reportedly advanced into the village of Saida al-Golan in the southern countryside, where they conducted search operations and detained a young man. The channel also reported another detention north of Kodna village following a nighttime raid on a house.
According to reports, these incidents are part of continued cross-border violations despite recent remarks by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who said that talks with Israel had not completely collapsed but were struggling due to Israel’s insistence on maintaining a military presence inside Syrian territory.
Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad government in December 2024, Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement void and moved to take control of the buffer zone along the frontier region.
