Amman, May 12 (Petra) -- The Lower House Agriculture and Water Committee met on Tuesday to discuss streamlining procedures for meat shipments entering the kingdom through various border crossings.

The meeting, chaired by MP Ahmad Al Shdeifat, included Director General of the Jordan Customs Department Ahmed Al-Akalik and other relevant officials. Al Shdeifat emphasized the necessity of accelerating entry processes for these shipments, noting that they are already subject to rigorous oversight by specialized authorities.

Attending committee members commended the Customs Department's role in monitoring the movement of goods and conducting thorough inspections of imports.

For his part, Al-Akalik affirmed that the Customs Department plays a vital role in preventing the smuggling of prohibited and dangerous materials across land, sea, and air ports. He revealed a joint decision made with the Ministry of Agriculture to simplify procedures by sufficing with health safety inspections for meat shipments.

Al-Akalik also denied any systematic delays in the entry of these goods.
