Kuwait: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced that the four detainees who had infiltrated Boubyan Island earlier this month, have admitted to belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Based on the suspects' confessions, relevant authorities have begun investigating the foiled attempt in order to counter all hostile plots that seek to target the country's security and stability, the ministry's statement on Tuesday said.

This explicit attack constitutes a blatant violation of the State of Kuwait's sovereignty, it added.

The moment information became available of an attempted infiltration of Boubyan Island on May 2, Kuwaiti authorities dealt with the threat immediately, as infiltrators attempted to sneak into the island aboard a fishing boat specially rented to carry out hostile acts, the Ministry of Interior said.

It noted that the attackers clashed with Kuwaiti armed forces stationed on the island and opened fire on them, resulting in injuries to two of the infiltrators and to one member of the armed forces who was carrying out his assigned duties.

The ministry revealed that the four detainees are IRGC officers: two colonels, one captain, and one first lieutenant.
