Mulberry Care Homes Expands Resident Health Monitoring With Rapid Tests From Rezure

The partnership is about giving Mulberry's nursing teams more tools to track a broader range of health markers and screen for issues that may need closer attention. That includes checks linked to nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, infections, and selected condition-specific concerns, helping nurses build a fuller picture of a resident's health alongside existing care plans.

The initiative has begun with a round of vitamin D testing across Mulberry's homes. Rezure and Mulberry chose these tests as care home residents are among the groups at highest risk of low vitamin D. Insufficiency is more common because of dark autumn and winter months, more time spent indoors, and older people's reduced ability to make enough vitamin D. Government survey data show that around 1 in 6 adults in the UK have levels below the recommended threshold, with the elderly overrepresented.

Early recognition of deficiencies and other health markers helps staff secure timely access to appropriate healthcare interventions and services. This fits into NHS England's enhanced health in care homes framework, which also centres on more proactive, personalised care to improve outcomes for people living in care.

Additional rapid testing provides nurses with another practical source of information to support conversations with residents, families, and clinicians, guide follow-up, and help shape better-informed care over time. These tests are intended to add insight, not replace existing professional care or any laboratory testing already used in residents' care.

How this benefits Mulberry residents:

Familiar setting: Residents can access rapid tests within the care home environment, with support from nursing staff. Extra visibility: Testing adds another layer of health insight alongside existing care and monitoring. Informed conversations: Results can help residents, families, and care teams talk more clearly about possible next steps. Earlier attention: A result may help flag an issue that needs closer follow-up or further professional review.

Paramjit Banwait, Managing Director of Mulberry Care Homes, said:

“I've always believed that the best care is the kind people do not always see: the small personalised decisions made on someone's behalf before they even realise they need them. This initiative reflects that. It is about staying one step ahead for the people in our care.”

Samir Ullah, Managing Director of Rezure, said:

“We're proud to partner with Mulberry Care Homes on this initiative. Good care often comes down to spotting potential issues early and giving people the right support at the right time.

By helping bring additional rapid testing into the care home setting, we hope to give residents, families and care teams more insight as part of a proactive approach to health.”
