Millions of Records at Risk as Cyberattack Hits France
(MENAFN) France's Interior Ministry has disclosed that a cyberattack may have triggered a sweeping data breach, potentially exposing the personal information of a significant number of citizens.
An "information security incident" was detected on April 15, the ministry confirmed in a statement cited by a broadcaster, with the breach potentially compromising data held across both private and professional accounts.
The attack zeroed in on the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS)—the government body responsible for administering vehicle registrations, driving licenses, and national identity documents—making the potential scale of exposure particularly alarming.
Among the data categories believed to have been compromised are login credentials, full names, email addresses, dates of birth, and unique account identifiers. The breach may have reached further still, with postal addresses, places of birth, and telephone numbers also potentially accessed by the attackers.
The Interior Ministry confirmed that individuals identified as affected are being notified on a case-by-case basis.
