Turkish Airlines Plane Evacuated In Nepal After Smoke Incident

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): A Turkish Airlines plane was evacuated after smoke was observed from its landing gear while taxiing after landing in Kathmandu, Nepal.

According to Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN), a fire initially broke out in the right rear tyre of the Airbus A330. The fire was extinguished before the aircraft was towed to the taxiway, Reuters reported.

All 277 passengers and 11 crew members on board were safely evacuated using emergency exits. No injuries were reported, according to the airline and aviation regulator.

Yahya Ustun, the airline's senior vice president for communications, said on X that technical inspections had been launched.

He said preliminary findings suggest the smoke was caused by a technical malfunction in a hydraulic pipe.

Ustun added that an additional flight has been arranged to transport the passengers to their destination.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
