Macron Urges Africa–Europe Cooperation on Technology, Energy
(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron calls for deeper collaboration between Africa and Europe in technology, energy, and innovation during the opening of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, according to reports.
The summit begins in the Kenyan capital with a high-level youth engagement forum held at the University of Nairobi, where Macron appears alongside Kenyan President William Ruto.
Macron says both continents face similar challenges in reducing reliance on major global technology powers.
“A lot of solutions are made in the US or made in China,” he says. “A lot of us today are consumers. So, I think we have a common fight, a common battle together of investment, which is to build our strategic autonomy for Europe and Africa.”
According to reports, Macron stresses that future development in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure depends heavily on energy capacity and investment.
“No chance to build any AI infrastructure and computing capacities without energy,” he says, calling for stronger investment in renewable energy and broader energy systems to support technological growth.
He adds that expanding infrastructure and energy cooperation is essential for both continents to strengthen innovation and reduce dependence on external powers, as the summit continues in Nairobi.
