Giriraj Singh Buys Electric Car After PM Modi's Appeal To Cut Fuel Use
Singh was seen travelling in the newly bought electric car to Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, where he boarded a flight.
Sharing his move on the social media platform X, Giriraj Singh wrote,“The confluence of environmental protection and modern progress! On the call of the Prime Minister, we used an electric vehicle (EV). This is a big step towards a bright future.”
His initiative is being seen as a symbolic gesture that could encourage people-especially his supporters-to adopt energy-saving practices and shift towards electric mobility.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made several appeals to citizens, urging them to prefer work-from-home where possible, reduce petrol and diesel usage, limit gold purchases, increase use of public transports like buses and Metro rail, promote indigenous products, encourage domestic tourism over foreign travel, and reduce excessive use of chemical fertilisers.
These suggestions were widely viewed as being in the national interest, particularly in light of global uncertainties.
Notably, former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been using an electric vehicle for a long time in Patna.
He typically travels within the city in his EV and switches to an SUV only for long-distance road journeys outside Patna.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted PM Modi and said that this is not a sermon but evidence of the government's failure.
Posting on the social media platform, Rahul Gandhi wrote,“PM Modi, while asking for sacrifice from the public, has said that do not buy gold, do not go abroad, burn less petrol, reduce fertilisers and cooking oil, take the Metro and work from home. This is not advice but a proof of the failure of the government.”
