Iran Says Response To US Proposal Was“Fair” After Trump Rejection
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told a news conference that Tehran's response included demands for an end to the war, lifting what he called a blockade and releasing Iranian assets frozen abroad under US sanctions pressure.
Baghaei also said Iran had called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring stability in Lebanon as part of its response to Washington's proposal for ending hostilities and resuming broader diplomatic understandings.
Trump said earlier that he had reviewed Iran's response and found it“completely unacceptable,” though neither Washington nor Tehran has publicly disclosed full details of the proposed framework or the Iranian counteroffer.
US officials previously said Washington was awaiting Tehran's formal response before deciding the future of negotiations and possible arrangements aimed at halting military escalation in the region.
The dispute comes amid continuing tensions involving Iran, Israel and armed groups aligned with Tehran across the Middle East, including Lebanon's Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently said Israel's military campaign against Hezbollah would continue regardless of broader negotiations with Iran.
Iran has repeatedly insisted that any wider regional ceasefire must include an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon and Gaza, while also demanding guarantees related to sanctions relief and maritime security in the Gulf.
The United States and regional mediators have continued indirect diplomatic contacts with Tehran in an effort to prevent broader regional escalation following months of conflict involving Iran, Israel, Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups operating across the Middle East.
