Investigation Launched After Six Bodies Found in Texas Train Boxcar

(MENAFN) Authorities in Texas are investigating after six bodies were discovered inside a cargo train boxcar in the city of Laredo, according to reports released early Monday.

The bodies were found Sunday afternoon at a Union Pacific rail yard during what officials described as a routine inspection of a railcar. Police said the discovery followed a call from a railroad employee earlier in the day.

Law enforcement officials stated that the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and investigators are still working to determine what happened. One police spokesperson said, “The circumstances of their deaths are unknown,” while adding that the inquiry remains at a very early stage.

Another official involved in the case explained, “It’s a very early phase of the investigation. There’s not a lot to reveal right now.”

Authorities confirmed that no survivors were located inside the boxcar. The identities, ages, and immigration status of the deceased individuals have not yet been determined.

Commenting on the incident, a local police representative described the situation as tragic, stating, “It’s a very unfortunate event… It was too many lives that were lost.”

Union Pacific said it was “saddened by the incident” and noted that it is cooperating fully with investigators.

The investigation is being handled jointly by local police, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas Rangers, and US Customs and Border Protection officials.
