Türkiye's Foreign Minister Set for Qatar Visit
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Qatar on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry sources confirmed Monday, in a trip covering a broad agenda spanning bilateral cooperation, regional security, and mounting humanitarian concerns.
At the top of the agenda, Fidan is expected to lay the groundwork for the 12th meeting of the High Strategic Committee — the highest institutional body governing Türkiye-Qatar relations — slated to convene in Türkiye this year under the joint chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The visit will also carry a tone of solidarity. Fidan is expected to reaffirm Ankara's support for Qatar in the wake of attacks endured in March and April, while pressing the critical importance of restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for both regional security and global economic stability.
On defense, Fidan is expected to argue that recent regional turbulence has underscored the growing strategic value of military and defense cooperation between the two nations, alongside joint connectivity initiatives he will frame as pillars of broader regional stability.
The Turkish minister is further expected to stress that a durable resolution to Gulf disputes remains an urgent priority, and to exchange views on active diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving that goal. He will also push for stronger region-led frameworks in addressing instability — with particular emphasis on what Ankara describes as Israel's destabilizing conduct across the region.
Fidan is expected to call for amplifying international awareness of Israel's actions in Gaza and the West Bank and the deepening humanitarian catastrophe they have produced. He will additionally caution against Israeli government policies that erode peace efforts, while underlining that safeguarding Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing Israeli strikes is essential to preventing further escalation.
Deep Bilateral Roots
The visit reflects the exceptional depth of Türkiye-Qatar ties. The two countries established their strategic partnership in 2014, and the High Strategic Committee has convened annually since 2015, alternating between Ankara and Doha. Across 11 meetings to date, the two sides have signed 115 cooperation agreements spanning a wide range of sectors.
Bilateral trade reached $1.15 billion in 2025 — the same year their Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement entered into force on August 1 — with both governments targeting an ambitious $5 billion trade volume in the years ahead.
