Iran Describes US War Proposal Response as ‘Generous, Responsible’
(MENAFN) Iran said Monday that its reply to the latest US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict was both “generous and responsible,” while emphasizing that Tehran’s main demands focus on stopping the war and ending attacks on Iranian shipping.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that Iran had not sought concessions from Washington during the diplomatic process. Instead, he said Tehran’s position centered on halting military hostilities and what it described as maritime aggression targeting Iranian vessels.
According to remarks carried by state media, Baqaei said: “We did not demand any concessions from the US, but rather called for an end to the war and a halt to maritime piracy against Iranian ships,”
Addressing reports concerning mediation efforts, the spokesman said that while Iran remains in communication with several countries regarding regional tensions, Pakistan continues to serve as the official intermediary between Tehran and Washington.
He stressed that Islamabad remains actively involved in diplomatic efforts, stating: “Pakistan, as the official mediator between Iran and the US, continues its activities in this regard,” He also noted that other countries, including Qatar, have contributed opinions and diplomatic input during the process.
Baqaei further said that diplomatic negotiations must ultimately be guided by national interests and emphasized that every side involved in talks acts according to its own priorities and calculations.
At the same time, he reiterated Iran’s readiness to continue defending itself militarily if necessary, while also remaining open to diplomacy under conditions it considers appropriate.
He said Iran “will fight whenever necessary” and would pursue diplomatic opportunities “whenever we see fit,” underscoring Tehran’s dual-track approach of military preparedness alongside continued political engagement.
