Germany Seeks Expanded Weapons Cooperation with Ukraine
(MENAFN) Germany has announced plans to deepen its defense cooperation with Ukraine by jointly developing advanced high-tech weapon systems, according to remarks made by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during an unannounced visit to Kyiv.
Pistorius said Berlin is committed to working closely with Ukraine on new military technologies, emphasizing that strengthening this partnership is a central objective of his trip.
Speaking to a German press agency, he stated, “Berlin is committed to developing new weapons systems in collaboration with Ukraine,” and added that expanding this cooperation within a strategic framework remains the key priority.
He explained that discussions are focusing in particular on the joint creation of advanced unmanned systems with capabilities across different operational ranges, especially in what is referred to as “deep strike” technology. This term describes the ability to target and destroy strategic military assets located deep inside an opponent’s territory.
According to defense analysts, several NATO member states currently face limitations in long-range strike capabilities, making this area a priority for development among European partners.
Pistorius also stressed the need for faster action by NATO countries, saying that rapid progress is essential in light of evolving security challenges. He indicated that the German government is pursuing additional joint projects with Ukraine to accelerate technological development in defense systems.
He further noted that Germany intends to leverage Ukrainian battlefield experience to improve weapons innovation. As part of this effort, he highlighted plans to work with the “Brave One” platform, which supports developers and technology innovators contributing to defense-related solutions.
The initiative reflects growing European interest in integrating wartime experience from Ukraine into modern weapons development programs, particularly in the field of unmanned and long-range systems.
