Gunmen Kill Residents Including Pregnant Women in Nigeria

(MENAFN) A late-night assault carried out by armed attackers on the Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District, located within Bassa Local Government Area of Nigeria’s Plateau State, left at least 14 people dead, according to residents who spoke about the incident Friday.

Reports indicated that the gunmen invaded the area around midnight while many residents were asleep. The attackers allegedly fired randomly across the community, triggering panic and forcing numerous families to abandon their homes in search of safety.

Plateau State has repeatedly witnessed violent clashes over the years, with tensions often tied to disputes between farmers and herders, communal disagreements, and retaliatory violence that have resulted in significant casualties.

Describing the attack, resident Raphael Ebi said he managed to escape by running through nearby bushes after the armed men entered the community shortly after midnight on Friday and began firing shots.

“They moved from one house to another attacking innocent people,” he said.

Another resident, Chigoji Ameh, stated that three pregnant women were among those killed during the attack, while several other victims suffered injuries.
