China Suspends Fireworks Production in Hunan After Factory Explosion

(MENAFN) Authorities in China have ordered all fireworks factories in Hunan province to stop operations immediately as part of a comprehensive safety review after a fatal blast, according to official reports.

The move follows an explosion on Monday in the city of Liuyang that killed 26 people and injured 61 others, as stated by reports.

Provincial emergency officials said the suspension is intended to address potential hazards across the industry, with upcoming inspections set to assess safety standards and operational practices.

Liuyang, known as a major center for fireworks manufacturing in China, is home to more than 400 production facilities.

The city recorded an annual output surpassing 50 billion yuan (about $7.3 billion) in 2025, representing approximately 70% of the country’s total fireworks exports.

Authorities have begun investigating the cause of the explosion, while broader safety inspections are being expanded throughout the province to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
