Tokyo: A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan on Friday with no tsunami warning issued, Japan Meteorological Agency has said.
The agency stated that the earthquake occurred at 8:22 PM (11:22 GMT) in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture. There were no immediate reports of damage.
The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported that no abnormalities were detected at the Miyagi and Fukushima nuclear power plants, which are located approximately 125 kilometers from the epicenter.
East Japan Railway Company announced the suspension of Shinkansen bullet train services due to the earthquake.
This earthquake comes after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Japan last April, triggering a tsunami warning.
