Armenia Emphasizes Open Borders, Regional Connectivity
(MENAFN) According to reports, Armenia’s foreign minister has stated that ongoing normalization efforts with Türkiye reflect Yerevan’s belief that open borders and improved regional relations align with the country’s long-term national interests.
Speaking at a forum in the Armenian capital Yerevan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that diplomatic engagement alone is not sufficient to guarantee lasting peace, arguing that stability must also be reinforced through economic and infrastructural interdependence.
As stated by reports, he highlighted the importance of shared infrastructure such as trade routes, energy networks, pipelines, and digital connectivity, suggesting that increased interdependence between neighboring states helps create mutual incentives for regional stability.
Mirzoyan linked this approach to Armenia’s broader regional strategy, describing it as a framework designed to connect transport and economic corridors across multiple directions, including east–west and north–south routes. He argued that such integration encourages all regional actors to have a vested interest in maintaining peaceful relations.
The minister also referenced Armenia’s ongoing diplomatic approach toward neighboring countries, noting efforts to strengthen ties with Georgia and maintain cooperative relations with Iran, while pursuing a more diversified foreign policy strategy.
According to reports, Armenia’s leadership has framed this approach as a shift toward balancing external partnerships rather than relying on a single geopolitical alignment, with an emphasis on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation across different regions.
