Zayed Charity Run Concludes in Addis Ababa with Strong Participation and Inspiring Humanitarian Impact

Held at Meskel Square, the event witnessed wide participation from Ethiopian runners alongside a distinguished delegation from the United Arab Emirates.

In terms of results, Special Olympic Winners the men’s category saw Abebe Gimednin secure first place, followed by Habtamu Weide in second, and Miki Devava in third. In Special Olympic Winners the women’s category, Meaza Getu claimed first place, with Tigist Dugassa finishing second and Meaza Elias taking third. While Elite Winner the women category witnessed Aleshegn Baweke in the first place, Sheto Gumi in the second and Robe Dida had the third place. Elite winners the men’s category triumph Nibret Kindae in the first place, Urgassa Negassa in the second, while Gezachew Mussie came in third place. A total prize pool of AED 150,000 was awarded, adding a competitive edge to the event alongside its humanitarian purpose.
Lt. General (Ret.) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, praised the success of the event, emphasizing that the Zayed Charity Run has evolved into a global platform reflecting the humanitarian vision of the United Arab Emirates and honors the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
He highlighted that the run goes beyond sport, serving as a meaningful initiative that supports charitable and healthcare projects. All proceeds from the event will be donated by the Emirates Red Crescent and given to the Children’s Heart Fund Ethiopia, ensuring a lasting positive impact on the community.
Carrying the message “Run for Kindness,” the event reaffirmed that every step taken contributes to spreading hope and improving lives. It also reinforced a culture of giving and volunteerism, while strengthening bonds between nations through shared humanitarian values.
