First Open-Heart Surgery Without Thoracotomy Performed In Rivne Region
“A new level of medicine in the Rivne region. For the first time in the region, open-heart surgery was performed through an incision of just a few centimeters, without opening the chest," the message reads.
As noted, the surgery was performed at the Regional Cardiac Surgery Center of the Yurii Semeniuk Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital in collaboration with specialists from the Amosov Institute. As Podolin explained, this was a complex surgical procedure. The patient is a 56-year-old woman from Rivne. She was diagnosed with a severe heart defect that could have led to heart failure.

Just 2 hours after the operation, the patient was breathing on her own, and the next day she was in a regular ward.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital (RRC) purchased an angiograph under the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 program.
