Projects Worth Over Rs 3,566 Crore Cleared For J&K
The approvals were announced at a programme in Srinagar, where the Minister also highlighted that total road project sanctions for the Union Territory have reached nearly Rs 8,000 crore within a year. He said the initiative is focused on connecting remote habitations and improving access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and markets.
In addition, a 'Mother Sanction' of over Rs 4,568 crore was released under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) for women Self-Help Groups across 24 States and Union Territories, aimed at strengthening women's livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised that the government's approach extends beyond infrastructure to integrated rural development, including agriculture and livelihood generation.
He highlighted the role of scientific farming, improved planting material, and integrated farming models involving allied activities such as animal husbandry and fisheries to enhance farmers' incomes.
He also announced that experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research will study Jammu & Kashmir's agro-climatic conditions to prepare a comprehensive agricultural roadmap.
Speaking at the event, Omar Abdullah described the approvals as significant and assured timely implementation, noting that improved road connectivity is critical for the region's development given its challenging terrain.
The initiatives are part of broader efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure, promote inclusive growth, and enhance livelihood opportunities across Jammu & Kashmir.
