Mass Protests Erupt in Israel, Demanding Netanyahu’s Resignation
(MENAFN) Large-scale anti-government demonstrations took place on Saturday in Tel Aviv and several other Israeli cities, with protesters calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and the establishment of an official commission to investigate the events of October 7, 2023, according to Israeli media reports.
The main gathering was held at Habima Square in Tel Aviv, where thousands of demonstrators assembled under a strong police presence, as reported by sources.
Protesters voiced criticism over the government’s handling of individuals held in Gaza and also expressed concerns about safeguarding judicial independence, particularly as the Supreme Court reviews calls for an inquiry into the security and intelligence failures linked to the October 7 attack.
Additional rallies were reported in other major cities, including Jerusalem, where hundreds took to the streets, and Haifa, where around 1,000 people gathered at the Horev Center.
Smaller protests were also observed in various locations nationwide.
The demonstrations were organized by the Movement for Quality Government, an anti-corruption watchdog group, along with other civil society organizations.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has rejected calls for a state commission of inquiry, arguing that such a body would not be impartial toward him.
