Nike Announces Plans to Slash 1,400 Jobs Worldwide
(MENAFN) US sportswear behemoth Nike announced plans Friday to eliminate approximately 1,400 positions across its global workforce, targeting its Global Operations division — with technology roles bearing the brunt of the cuts.
In a direct communication to staff, Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy framed the sweeping reductions as part of the company's "Win Now" action plan, declaring the organization is now in the home stretch of its strategic turnaround.
"Across the company, we have been taking deliberate steps to strengthen our foundation, sharpen how we compete, and build a model designed to deliver long-term profitable growth," he said.
The restructuring is set to ripple across team configurations, work locations, and headcount in the weeks ahead, as Nike pursues an operations model it describes as faster, leaner, and more precisely calibrated to market demands.
"These reductions are very hard for the teammates directly affected and for the teams around them, too," Alagirisamy added.
On the technology front, Nike said it is actively consolidating its footprint around two flagship hubs — its headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and the Nike India Technology Center — shedding layers of organizational complexity in the process.
The company also flagged operational changes to its Air Manufacturing Innovation facilities across Beaverton, St. Louis, and Vietnam, where staffing levels will be recalibrated to better align with current business demands and efficiency targets.
Further structural shifts include the relocation of select Converse footwear manufacturing and engineering resources closer to factory partners, alongside a tighter integration of materials operations with the broader supply chain apparatus.
Taken together, Nike said the measures are engineered to strip out complexity, sharpen responsiveness, and lay a more resilient foundation for sustained long-term growth.
