Avalanche Hits Srinagar-Leh Road
The incident occurred around 4 pm near the Zojila axis, a stretch known for frequent snow-related hazards. At least seven goods vehicles, including two tankers, were caught in the avalanche while en route to Kargil from Sonamarg.

Officials said a coordinated rescue operation was launched immediately, with teams from the civil administration and police rushing to the site in Drass. Efforts were initiated to evacuate those trapped and assess the scale of the impact.
No fatalities were reported in the incident. However, some drivers sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Drass for treatment.
Authorities said snow clearance operations were also underway to restore connectivity along the highway, which serves as a critical lifeline between Kashmir and Ladakh.

The incident comes weeks after a deadly avalanche near Kani Pathri along the Zojila stretch on March 27, where several passenger vehicles were buried, leaving seven people, including a child, dead. The recurrence of such avalanches has raised concerns over safety measures and monitoring systems along the high-altitude corridor.
